Arthur “Art” R. Manrique, 93, passed away peacefully on Monday, June 26, 2017.  He was born on May 22, 1924, in Los Angeles, California, to Pablo and Francisca Manrique.  Art served in the U.S. Navy during WWII, aboard the U.S.S. Ascella (AK-137) as a cook.  He also served during the Korean War.  Art had several tours of duty throughout his military career, not only with the Navy, but with the Army and Air Force.  Ultimately culminating in achieving the rank of Master Sergeant, in the California Air National Guard, providing a total of over 29 years of service to his country.

 

Art also served his community as a Reserve Officer of the Los Angeles Police Department and the California State Military Reserve.  Other occupations held were: Manager of the Los Angeles Police Academy Rifle and Gun Club, Manager of Clifton’s Cafeteria, and Security Officer at The Burbank Studios.  Art and Josephine were married on September 15, 1946. 

 

He is survived by his beloved wife of 70 years, Josephine; three of their four children:  Maria, Mariana, and Paul, and predeceased by his son, Juan.  He has ten grandchildren, one great-granddaughter, and two great-great grandsons. 

 

He will be most missed for the mild manner which he projected, his unlimited patience, and the humorous way he recorded his view of life through his many drawings. 

 

Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, July 13, 2017 at 9:20 am, at Southern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 1900 Veterans Memorial Dr., Boulder City, Nevada, 89005.  In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests a tribute donation be made to Paralyzed Veterans of America at pva.org.  Family and friends can sign an online memorial guestbook at www.bouldercityfamilymortuary.com
