Barbara Joan Huwe

Barbara Joan Huwe, age 87, departed this life to be with the Lord on March 9, 2018. Barbara was born September 14, 1930 in Minneapolis, MN, the daughter of Arthur and Esther Ottinger of Chaska, MN. She was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years and the love of her life, Ralph Arthur Huwe.

Growing up on a farm in Chaska, Minnesota Barbara gained a love for the outdoors and acquired a “Can do” spirit. As she and Ralph moved across the country, living in a number of states, Barbara’s focus was on creating a loving home where her children could find a sense of belonging despite their geographical location.  In addition to her homemaking duties she assisted with the family finances by working outside of the home in women's apparel sales.  Her genuine desire to assist her customers often resulted in notable sales results which were recognized by her employers.  Those who knew her well recognized that she simply treated others as she would wish to be treated.

Barbara's love for the outdoors translated into “riding shotgun” on many vacation trips across the country with her husband and children in the family station wagon with trailer in tow.  Together, Ralph and Barbara exposed their children to the many wonders of our nation with many nights under the stars in National Parks.  Barbara and Ralph eventually retired to Prescott, Arizona in 1996, living there for almost 20 years before moving to Las Vegas, Nevada.  In retirement, she and Ralph served as volunteers at the local hospital, and would join friends on hikes through the hills of Arizona.  Her greatest joy, however, came from her love for her family, and she was happiest when she was with one or more of her children, grandchildren, or great-grandchildren.

Barbara was quick to smile and made you feel welcome and accepted. She accepted life as it came, and made the best out of every situation. Barbara’s life embodied the fruit of the Spirit… Love, Joy, Peace, Patience, Kindness, Goodness, Faithfulness, Gentleness, and Self-Control as witnessed by her many friends and family.  Barbara Huwe will be dearly missed.

Barbara is survived by her five sons Timothy (Cindee), Thomas (Kimberly), Jonathan (Janice), David (Ethel), Tobiah, and daughter Kristen Brewer (Bobby). She is also survived by 14 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, and her sisters Onalee Sharp and Sharon Smitten.
