Frederick Robert Grabber, passed away on July 29, 2017.  He was born on November 3, 1920 and happily raised on Hilltop Farm in Milford, CT.  Throughout his life, Fred always looked back and spoke fondly of his childhood on the farm where he plowed the fields, harvested hay, rode the family horse and learned to drive a car at 8 years old.  He was a happy terror for the police and a memorable personality in a charming small town.

Fred served in World War II as a fighter pilot flying P-51s in China where he flew a total of 33 missions on record, a number he loved to cheerfully dispute, claiming army record-keeping used fuzzy math.  After the war, he married the love of his life, Jean Grabber, and the two of them shared a beautiful bond that lasted 57 years.  Always ready to crack a joke, Fred has been a loyal, hardworking, and supportive husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, friend and comrade who will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

Fred is survived by his son Robert Eugene Grabber, daughter Pamela Jean Grabber Hadden, granddaughter Christine Grabber Flowers, grandson David Clarence Hadden, and great grandchildren Matthew Christopher Flowers and Natalie Elisabeth Flowers.  Fred was preceded in death by his loving wife Jean Elizabeth Barth Grabber, son Gary W. Grabber, daughter Sandra Ann Grabber, and granddaughter Michelle Juliette Hadden.

Dad/Grandpa/Great Grandpa Fred – we’ve all learned to “straighten up and fly right” thanks to your example, wonderful stories, and entertaining way of looking at the world.  We all hold you close in our heart, and are grateful for all you gave to each of us and this country we live in.  See you later, Doc, and my Heaven be ready for you and all of your wonderful stories…don’t crack a joke upon arrival, wait a day or two!
