George Henry McGarrity, Jr., 86, of Boulder City, Nevada, passed away Monday morning, Oct. 8, 2018, at his home surrounded by family. He was born September 28, 1932, to the late George H. McGarrity, Sr., and Winifred Pauline McGarrity in New Kensington, Pennsylvania. Graduating from Franklin Township High School, Murrysville, PA in 1950, he was also a graduate of Gateway Technical Institute and had studied accounting at The Pennsylvania State University New Kensington Campus.

He worked for the Aluminum Company of America for 31 years and while there met his beloved late wife of 59 years, Patricia (nee Malecki), with whom he had two children. They married at St. Mary of Czestochowa Catholic Church in New Kensington, April 1954. While at ALCOA he formed lifelong friendships and was awarded Alcoa Laboratories Merit Award in 1986, for excellence.

With deep commitment to beloved friends and family, he valued his Pennsylvanian roots. There he relaxed by pitching horseshoes at the 7th Street Sportsman's Club, and he was a lifelong Masonic Lodge member, Kiskiminetas Lodge #617 in Vandergrift, PA. Later, as proud 24 yr. Boulder City resident, he loved participating in community activities such as planting trees down Adams Blvd., the Boulder City Citizen's Patrol, Lake Terrace Board membership, as well as Gem Club membership.

Deeply honored to be amongst Boulder City's veterans, his service record included active Army duty in Washington state and in Anchorage, Alaska (1955-57) as communications officer. He received an Honorable Discharge from the Army Reserves on January 15, 1962.

As a 25 yr. prostate cancer survivor, he battled several serious health issues with heroism including melanoma in 2006, and shortly thereafter, Parkinson's Disease. A lifelong benefactor, he always reached out to help others, earning the nickname 'Papa George'. The years nearest his life's end he most enjoyed family nights watching MLB baseball.

He is survived by his son, George H. McGarrity III and daughter, Kathleen L. McGarrity, both  of Boulder City, Nevada, sister, Maureen E. Wyndham of Jacksonville, Florida, her children, Cynthia M.
