Laura Sanderson Obituary

LAURA JANE (Bennett) SANDERSON “JANE”, of Boulder City, Nevada, age 74, passed away July 29, 2018.  Born January 27, 1944 in Leonardtown, Maryland, she was the daughter of the late Woodrow Wilson Bennett and Dorothy Wise Bennett of Redgate, Maryland.  In 1978, Jane made a huge life changing decision and moved from Southern Maryland to Las Vegas, Nevada and the following year made Boulder City her permanent home. She worked as a dealer and Pit Boss at the Marina Casino on the Strip until she found a place closer to home at the Gold Strike. In 1983, she met and fell in love with Melvin (Sandy) Joseph Sanderson of Boulder City, Nevada and they married in November of 1988. Jane loved to entertain. Especially memorable were the 4th of July parties at their home. The two were best friends and loved boating on Lake Mead, motorcycle riding, flying, and spending time with the many friends they made in Boulder City. Their love, smiles, and laughter will be forever etched in our hearts.

Jane was preceded in death by her husband, Melvin J. Sanderson, her mother Dorothy Wise Bennett, her father Woodrow Wilson Bennett, her son Killian Steven Laschalt, her brothers, Wilson Bennett, Frank Bennett, Richard Bennett, and Robert Bennett and her sister, Elizabeth Oyler.

She is survived by her sister Margaret (Peggy) Bennett; daughters Laura Laschalt Dietz and Jessica Boultinghouse; step-daughters Karen Sanderson-Aslum and Kelly Hyatt; grandchildren, Laura Jean Dooley, Amber Premore, Justin Stone, Bryce Boultinghouse, Alissa Robinson, Jillian Robinson, Sarah Robinson, Jason Aslum, Leigha Dunning and Jeanette Shambaugh; great grandchildren, Anthony Premore, Lynette Dooley, Kasandra Underwood, Sean O’Born, Bryan O’Born, Maximus Shambaugh, and Marcus Shambaugh.

Jane lived life to the fullest and was dearly loved by the many friends she made throughout her life. She loved going “uptown” to listen to music played by some of her favorite friends and to chat with others. Ancestry was important to her and she diligently researched her family tree and traced her ancestry to a member of the Revolutionary War.  She was proud to become a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution. She kept Southern Maryland in her heart and enjoyed every precious opportunity to eat Maryland Steamed Blue Crabs with Old Bay Seasoning and St. Mary’s County Stuffed Ham which can only be found in St. Mary’s County, Maryland.
