Meghan Kathleen Benedix

           Meghan Kathleen Benedix, 45, died on February 26, 2018,  in Las Vegas, Nevada, where she lived for 20 years, after a courageous battle with cancer.

            Meghan was born on June 5, 1972, in Manila, The Philippines.  She returned with her family to the United States when she was 10 months old and lived in Eden, Idaho.  She attended elementary school in California and Idaho.  She completed high school in Idaho.   She received Bachelors of Arts degrees in Theater Arts and Psychology from the University of California, Santa Cruz. 

She married Marcus Prater in 1998.  They moved to Las Vegas where two sons, Grahm and Truman, were born.  They later divorced.

            In Las Vegas, she used her creativity to its fullest, working in marketing and advertising.  After spending some years being a full-time mom, she earned her Master’s Degree and taught special education at Robert Taylor Elementary School in Henderson, Nevada.  She loved the kids and came up with so many ways to help them.

            Meghan is survived by her sons Grahm, 16, and Truman, 13; her parents, The Rev. Gary and Vicki Benedix; her sister, Gretchen (Phil) Benedix-Bland; her brother, Derek (Popi) Benedix; her niece and her three nephews, extended family and many close friends.  She was preceded in death by her maternal and paternal grandparents.

            Meghan was a fun-loving, kind-hearted Child of God.  She was baptized at St. Stephen’s Lutheran Church, Baguio City, The Philippines.   And later confirmed in Peace Lutheran Church, Filer, Idaho.    She loved to sing the ancient liturgy of the Church as well as all other kinds of music.

            Music (after all, she was the Queen of Karaoke), dancing, fun with friends, a creative spirit, love of everything beautiful, seeing new places, and a desire and willingness to love and help people, most especially her children, Grahm and Truman—this was Meghan. 

And like all things, Meghan chose a different ending to her chapter.  A memorial service will be held later in 2018.
