I remember Walt with great fondness and respect. He was the consummate professional and a great musician. He also had a smile that made anyone feel at ease. So proud to have known and worked with this wonderful man.

Walt contributed more than his talent to this musical community. He was an inspiration and a friend and will live on in our memory.

Dearest Carol. We send you our very best wishes on the passing of your beloved husband, Walt. We remember your friendship so dearly. And Bill especially remembers all the wonderful work we did with young people at the Nevada School of the Arts. We have been out of touch these past years, but will never forget your friendship and Walt' brilliant artistry. We know your faith will sustain you, but send our support as well. With love and affection, Bill and Carolyn Lowman

I vividly remember when I first met Walt in Sp. 1970 at Uni. of Kentucky.
That fall I became Walt's GA in Trumpet after graduating from I.U.
As Walt's GA, I performed in UK Faculty Brass Quintet/Lexington Brass Quintet and taught trumpet undergraduates.
We became close friends fast and remained close friends for over 47 years.
I became Dir. of Jazz Ens. & trumpet instructor at CSUC when Carol & Walt moved to Las Vegas in 1973. Walt was solo guest artist at CSUC several times.

Carol deepest condolences from Rita and I. Walt and I had many moments together with The Nevada Jazz Orchestra and of course Darhma with Roy James and Phil Whigfall...those were special days of great music. We were blessed to have had him in our lives. He was a master improvisor.....wonderful writer and a lovely man. I will miss him

I am privileged to have been a musical colleague of Walt's for three decades. Walt will always be remembered for his versatility: equally at home in jazz, big band, orchestral, brass quintet and contemporary music. He left on me a lasting impression of the consummate musician - one perfectly comfortable mixing performances of jazz with The Pines of Rome or playing works by Donald Erb and Morton Subotnick alongside a Telemann sonata for flute, trumpet and continuo.

I think of Walt every time I hear Leroy Anderson's epic Sleigh Ride, a piece that, near its end, slides suddenly into jazz style. Walt always made transitions like that seamlessly. And who could forget his arrangements of tunes by Thelonius Monk and Duke Ellington for woodwind quintet!

I'll miss Walt but I know he probably hasn't skipped even a single beat on his new gig!

I first met Walt and Carol Blanton when my former wife and I moved to Las Vegas in 1985. They both worked with me at the Nevada School of the Arts. They were both so helpful with introducing us to the faculty and staff at NSA, as well as introducing us to the music and arts community of Las Vegas and the state.
Walt's obituary could, seemingly, go on for many more pages. He was one of the finest and most accomplished musicians and composers I have known. As a performer, his qualities have been recognized over the years, and the same applies to his ability as a contemporary composer. I knew Walt primarily through his teaching at NSA. What a fantastic teacher. What an awesome individual.
Walt, you will be missed, but I think we all know you are playing in that awesome jazz ensemble in God's Heaven.
I am unable to attend the funeral mass this week due to some important medical tests I have to take that day. I wish I could be there to physically show my love and respect for such an awesome man. My prayers for Carol and for Walt's family join a chorus of so many others who were touched by Walter Blanton's talent and caring.

Dearest Carol,
Our hearts are heavy today...but rejoicing in Walt's Victory. We have so many wonderful memories of times spent with you two. Dinners with Bible studies were always an adventure! But the Music School on the mountain was a joy and fun beyond measure!! I will never forget the loving surprise of Walt's ministering to me when I got the flu and his 'special remedy'! We send you our prayers and always our love. Norm and Lois
