Earl Andrews Obituary

Earl Nelson Andrews who, was one of the many but few heroes of WWII, passed away on January 15, 2019 in Boulder City, Nevada at the Nevada State Veterans Home. He had been at the Veterans home for two months and was previously at the William J. Pete Knight Veterans Home in Lancaster, CA.  Earl, “Andy” was born on November 11, 1921 in Tarkio, Missouri to Mabel and Robert Andrews and was one of eight children. He joined the United States Navy as a test pilot in where he learned how to fly planes on an empty Texas farm field in a P-38.  Andy was known as a man with a passion for flying.

Andy was of the Christian Faith.  He loved to fly planes, “he would rather fly then eat”.  Andy fed his passion for flying while serving his country as a carrier-based fighter pilot in WWII. After the war he became a used car dealer and local drag racer who gained notoriety for winning races while chewing on unlit cigars.  He loved to eat and drink coffee at local diners where he could reminisce about the glory days.

Andy is preceded in death by his son Gary Andrews and granddaughter Stephanie Andrews. Andy is survived by his children Sandra Andrews, Tadd Andrews, Craig Andrews, Andrew (Sharyl) Andrews, Mimi (David) Andrews-Eberhard, Christopher (Jennifer) Andrews, William Andrews, and Teddy (Joleen) Andrews; and seven grandchildren.
