Elfriede Josephine Liberty

Elfriede Josephine Liberty, of Las Vegas, Nevada, peacefully passed away on May 12, 2021 surrounded by family.  She was 88 years old.

Elfriede was born on February 28, 1933 in Trier, Germany to the late Walter and Maria Schmitz.  She met her beloved and dedicated husband, Logan Lee Liberty, while he was stationed with the U.S. Air Force in Trier, Germany.  Elfriede and Lee were married on December 20, 1955.  They spent the next 25 years serving in the Air Force and traveling the world together.  They moved to Las Vegas in 1978 after retiring from the Air Force.  They continued their love of travel by cruising all over the world and loved visiting family and friends.

Elfriede enjoyed a successful retail career working for Marshall Rousso for over 35 years.  She liked making everyone look their best.  While supporting her husband’s Air Force career, Elfriede found enjoyment in occupations as diverse as driving a school bus in Aviano, Italy and working in the garment industry in Columbus, Mississippi.

Elfriede was dedicated to her family and loved them with all her heart.  She was the most dedicated, supportive, caring, and loving person a family could ask for and her family loved her unconditionally.  She was the best cook in the world and was known for her German Christmas cookies which she shared with friends and family every year.  She was kind to everyone she met and enjoyed close friendships she maintained throughout her life.

She is survived by the love of her life and devoted husband of 65 years, Lee Liberty of Las Vegas, Nevada. Son, Michael Lee Liberty, of Las Vegas, Nevada. Daughter, Sally Liberty Abbed, son-in-law Jamal Abbed, and her wonderful grandchildren, Kevin Liberty Abbed and Lori Elizabeth Abbed of Alexandria, Virginia.  She is survived by her brother, Manfred Schmitz and his wife, Lena of Dusseldorf, Germany.

She is preceded in death by her parents, her brother Bert Schmitz, and sister Edith Williams.

Her service will be at noon on June 30, at St. Thomas More Catholic Church, 130 N. Pecos Rd, Henderson, NV.  A private interment will follow at Southern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery.
