Herbert Arthur Ward

The Rev. Dr. Herbert A. Ward Jr.

03-30-1937 – May 31, 2022

Fr. Ward was born and raised in Mississippi in and around Jackson.  He obtained his bachelors degree from Millsaps College in Jackson and his divinity degree of General Seminary in New York City.  He was ordained an episcopal priest December, 1961 serving perishes and missions on the Mississippi Gulf Coast.   He later served on the staff of St. George’s Episcopal Church in New Orleans where he organized and became the first headmaster of the parish’s k-12 private school.  He was called to serve as the Executive Director of St. Jude’s Ranch for Children in 1971 where he remained until his retirement in 2001.

Fr. Ward was a gifted preacher and a kind and loving soul, respected by his friends, his parishioners, his community, and the many children who passed through the Ranch during his tenure.  He leaves behind his wife Nancy, son Timothy, daughter Kathleen and husband Chad, and grandchildren Mehki, Brant, Beckett, and Baylor.  A funeral mass is scheduled for Thursday, July 21st at 10:30 a.m. at St. Andrews Catholic Church in Boulder City with a celebration of life following at Boulder Creek Golf Course.  While Fr. Ward received awards and recognition for his work during his lifetime, nothing meant more to him than the staff and children at work and the family he came home to at the end of the day.

II Timothy 4:6-8 “The time has come for my departure.  I have fought the good fight.  I have finished the race.  I have kept the faith.  Now there is in store for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will award me on that day, and not only to me, but also to all who have longed for his appearing.”
