Margery Goldston Obituary

Margery Irene Goldston, 91, a longtime resident of Boulder City, NV, passed away peacefully on
November 20, 2022. She was born January 12, 1931, in Alamosa, Colorado, to Isaac Leroy Funk and
Myrtle Althea Brown. Margery married Clay Burnnie Goldston on August 13, 1950, in Artesia, NM and
sealed in the Salt Lake City Temple August 13, 1956, and raised six children.
She is survived by their children Nancy Irene (Ron) Smith, Thomas Clay Goldston, Ned Allen (Shannon)
Goldston and Donna Lorraine (Byron) Stepherson; their son-in-law Ugochukwu “Mike” (Karen) Anosike
and their daughter-in-law Kendra (Larry) Schicker-Goldston; twenty-eight grandchildren, forty-seven
great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild; her sister Faye Funk Pittman Varner and brother
Harold Leroy Funk.
Margery is preceded in death by her husband Clay of 66 years, her parents, sisters Deiaon, Helen, and
Katherine, brother Joe, her daughter Karen Christene (Mike) Anosike and son Larry Kent (Kendra)

Margery’s greatest love was being a wife, mother, and grandmother. She loved to learn and study and
self-taught many of her hobbies, including family history, sewing, crocheting, and knitting. She was
known for her cookies and Christmas candies. All her children learned to cook from watching her. She
loved the Gospel of Jesus Christ and was a student of the scriptures. She enjoyed reading for leisure, was
organized, and, when she started a task, would not stop until she finished, no matter how big the
project was.
Margery graduated from Artesia High School, NM (1949), BA Education/Art Adams State University,
Alamosa, CO (1963), and MA Library Science UNLV (70).
Before graduating with her Bachelors, Margery worked as a seamstress and a city utility clerk in Artesia,
NM.
Margery was a librarian at Zia Middle School, Artesia, NM (64-66) and at Halle Hewetson Elementary
School in Las Vegas, NV (66-89), where she converted the entire library from card catalog to
computerized.
During their 66-year marriage, Margery and Clay built and remodeled many homes in New Mexico,
Arizona, Utah, and Nevada.
She was a faithful lifelong member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She served as a
Ward librarian, Relief Society and Primary teacher, and many other callings. Clay and Margery served
three Spanish-speaking missions: Mexico City from March-June 1989, Guatemala City 1991-1992, and
Guatemala City 1993-1995. They served as ordinance workers in the Las Vegas Temple from 1999-2000.
