Melvin Earling Olsen

Melvin Earling Olsen, of Boulder City, Nevada, passed away at home on September 5, 2021 at the age of 84. He was born on May 9, 1937 in Seattle, WA to George and Paula Olsen. He married Eileen Rose Mayer on August 27, 1994 in Bainbridge Island, WA.

Mel worked as a sprinkler fitter in the Seattle area until retiring and living his dream of sailing the Pacific Ocean along the coast of Mexico with Eileen. They loved sailing, meeting new friends, and their many adventures together. After seven years of traveling, they moved to a home in Boulder City overlooking Lake Mead, where they spent the last eighteen years.

Mel is survived by his wife Eileen Olsen; his sister Dyan Hill; his three children Tamey Gall, Becky Michael, and Craig Olsen; and Eileen’s four children, Kathleen Ahmann, Kristin Stolte, Kellie Tederman, and Kerrie Reyelts; as well as three grandchildren, eight step-grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, and three step-great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his daughter Jean and his step-great-grandchild Demetrius.

Mel’s remains will be scattered from a sailboat in Washington’s Puget Sound, where he spent many days sailing. Family and friends of Mel can leave memories and messages at bouldercityfamilymortuary.com.
