Robert Long Lewis Jr.

Robert (Bob) Long Lewis, 90, passed away March 22nd, 5:30 pm at the Nevada State Veterans Home, where he had been battling Lewy Body Dementia. He is survived by his wife, Joyce Rodaway Lewis, and his three children, Susan Layman, Son-In-Law Ken Layman, Barbara Lewis and Robert Lewis; his two step children, David Kempf, Terri McLain, 7 Grandchildren and 10 Great-Grandchildren

Bob was born in Kansas City, Missouri on April 3, 1928 to Robert and Marguerite (Linn) Lewis. He grew up in the house his father built in the neighboring suburb of Raytown. Eventually his family moved to Las Vegas, Nevada, where he played saxophone in a local combo, winning a state championship for best sax solo. He also gained employment at a local camera shop, beginning what would become a successful, globetrotting career in the photo industry.

In 1986, as a new member of the Crystal Cathedral, he met the love of his life, Joyce Rodaway. They shared a common faith and love of dancing, and were married in 1988, beginning their “perpetual honey moon”.  They celebrated their 30th Wedding Anniversary at the Veterans Home August5th, 2019.

Bob was well loved as a man of integrity, humility and kindness. He maintained a lifelong love of big band jazz, and danced like it was second nature. Faith, family and business remained the steady anchors of his long and successful life.

Memorial Services will be held Sunday April 7, 2019, at 1:00 pm at Faith Christian Church, 1100 Buchanan Blvd, Boulder City, NV 89005.  The following Monday, April 8 at 9:20 am he will be interned with military honors at Southern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 1900 Veterans Memorial Drive, Boulder City, NV. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of Bob Lewis to the Nevada State Veterans Home. Checks may be made payable to NVAL (Nevada Veterans Assistance League) with Bob’s name in reference.
