Ruth Laird Obituary

Ruth Elizabeth Laird, 92, of Las Vegas, Nevada, passed away on September 8, 2022 at the Southern Nevada State Veterans Home in Boulder City.

She was born on February 12, 1930 to the late Benhard and Hildegard Franzen. She attended Theodore Roosevelt High School, graduating in 1948. Ruth was married to Joe A. Laird from 1953 until his passing in 2019.  They built a home together in Lombard, Illinois. Ruth was employed for many years at Heineman's Bakery.

Family meant everything to Ruth. For many decades, Ruth and Joe hosted a festive Christmas Eve dinner and gift exchange at their home.  During the summer, Ruth and Joe hosted backyard cookouts.  Family and friends who were like family fondly remember the time spent together at these annual events.  The tradition continued when Ruth and Joe relocated to Las Vegas.

Ruth is survived by two children, Susan Laird Kolar (Roger) of Las Vegas and Sally A. Walker of Atlanta, Georgia, two grandchildren, David Laird Kolar and Eric Alan Walker (Elina), and two great-grandchildren, Angelos Kyriakidis Walker and Athanasia Kyriakidou Walker.  She is also survived by niece Bonnie Schwetz and nephew Rex Pecoraro (Sharon), additional family and friends.

The graveside service will take place at the Southern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery on Monday, October 17, 2022 at 8:40am in the Service Facility (Chapel).
