Sandra Kim (Yost) McCarroll

The Rev. Sandra McCarroll was born to Geraldine and Max Yost in American Falls, Idaho,. She attended schools in Boise, Idaho, and the University of Idaho, Moscow, where she joined Kappa Kappa Gamma fraternity. She received her AB from the University of Chicago in English literature and her Master’s in American Studies at Union College, Schenectady, New York. In Schenectady and later in Fairfield, Connecticut, she was an active member of the Junior League in the community.

Church and community were always important in her life. She helped develop several prayer teams in Episcopal churches both in Southport, Connecticut, and Boulder City. In addition she was a paid Director of Christian Education programs at Trinity Church, Southport, CT, and a volunteer director at St. Christopher’s in Boulder City. She taught adults and children in both churches. She was a vestry member and senior warden in Boulder City and was otherwise active during her time in both churches.

Sandy strongly supported education for women and belonged to two organizations which fund scholarships for women, Panhellenic and the American Association for University Women. She was also active in the community in Connecticut, serving as co-designer and then Coordinator of the Survey of Youth Services for Six Towns of Greater Bridgeport, Connecticut. She was part of the team which brought together those same town and state officials and youths and 200 public service agencies for a follow-up three-day community planning conference following the publication of the Survey. Later, Sandy taught community survey techniques at a state convention of social service executives and at a national convention. In addition, Sandy trained church and many community groups in group process skills.

She was trained in pastoral care and gerontology and worked with the elderly in Fairfield, Connecticut, in both paid and volunteer positions.

The Rev. McCarroll served as a priest at St. Christopher’s Episcopal Church in Boulder City from 2005-2010. She was a marvelous preacher, teacher and friend, and we shall miss her.
